Recycling Revolution: Deposit Refund System Starts!

From October 1, 2025, Poland joins the countries with a deposit refund system for beverage packaging! This groundbreaking system will include manufacturers, stores, and of course us – consumers. Let's get ready for the changes!

What does it mean for you?

Soon, you will notice beverages in packaging marked with a special deposit mark on store shelves. This mark is your guarantee of a refund after returning the bottle or can!

Key Information about the Deposit Refund System:

  • Promotion of Recycling: The system aims to increase the amount of waste recycled.
  • Less Waste: Reducing littering and caring for the cleanliness of public spaces.
  • Circular Economy: The deposit is a step towards a more sustainable approach to resources.
  • Gradual Implementation: Not all packaging will be subject to a deposit right away. Let's give ourselves time to get used to the changes.
  • The Deposit Mark is Key: Only packaging with this mark entitles you to a deposit refund!

Which Packages Are Included in the System?

  • Plastic bottles up to 3 liters (deposit 0.50 PLN)
  • Metal cans up to 1 liter (deposit 0.50 PLN)
  • Reusable glass bottles up to 1.5 liters (deposit 1 PLN)

What is the system not covering?

Packaging for milk, yogurts, juice cartons and single-use glass bottles are still thrown into the appropriate waste containers.

Remember!

  • The deposit is added to the price of the drink and visible on the receipt.
  • A receipt is not required for a deposit refund.
  • The packaging must have an undamaged deposit mark and barcode.

Store Responsibilities

Stores larger than 200 m² must accept returns and collect a deposit. Smaller stores can join the system voluntarily.

How to Prepare the Packaging for Return?

  • Empty the packaging.
  • Leave the cap on the bottle.
  • Do not crush the packaging!
