Educational Meeting in Brodnica Municipality: Health and Care for Seniors

On August 13, 2025, at 3:10 PM, an educational meeting organized by the Social Services Center of Brodnica Municipality took place at the WDK community center in Karbowo. This event was aimed at residents of the municipality and focused on issues related to health and care for the elderly and chronically ill.

The meeting was led by the Emerald Heart Association, known for supporting educational and health-promoting initiatives.

Podology – Foot Care

Ms. Nadia Madoyan, a podology specialist, discussed in detail the principles of proper foot care, which is particularly important for the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases. Topics covered included the prevention of bedsores and diabetic foot complications, ways to deal with calluses, fungal infections, and ingrown toenails, as well as home foot care.

Logopedics – Support in Swallowing, Memory and Concentration

Speech therapist Ms. Wiesława Kopkowska emphasized that logopedics for the elderly is not only about speech but also about support in swallowing, memory, and concentration. Participants learned about exercises to facilitate safe swallowing and breathing, techniques to support memory and brain oxygenation, and word games to stimulate the mind.

Medical Care – Daily Care for a Bedridden Person

Medical caregiver Ms. Dorota Zydlewska provided essential tips on the daily care of a bedridden person, including changing the patient's position and preventing bedsores, bathing and hygiene in bed, using auxiliary equipment (mattresses, rails, lifts), communicating with the patient, and providing psychological support. The principles of proper nutrition for bedridden people were also discussed, including the choice of products, coping with loss of appetite, and creating menus rich in protein and calories.

The meeting was a valuable source of knowledge on caring for loved ones.
