Compensation from KRUS after an accident on a farm - what you should know?

Bydgoszcz, April 30, 2025 Did you have an accident while working on a farm? If you are a farmer, a farmer's spouse, or a household member insured with KRUS, you may be entitled to compensation.

When are you entitled to compensation from KRUS?

Compensation is due if the accident was related to agricultural activities and meets the following conditions:

  • The event was sudden, unpredictable, short, and one-off.
  • It was caused by an external cause (e.g. the action of natural forces, tools, machines, chemical factors).
  • It was related to work, i.e. it occurred on the farm, on the way to or from the farm, or while performing ordinary activities related to running an agricultural business outside the farm.

Types of compensation

If the accident caused permanent or long-term health impairment, you are entitled to a one-off accident compensation. In the event of the farmer's death, the entitled family members will receive compensation. The farmer's assistant also has the right to compensation.

Amount of compensation (from January 1, 2025)

  • PLN 431 for each percentage of health impairment.
  • PLN 660 for inability to live independently.
  • Compensation for fatal accidents is paid to eligible family members, in varying amounts depending on their relationship with the deceased.

Important information

Compensation is not due if the accident was caused intentionally, due to gross negligence, or under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.

Remember to report the accident to KRUS as soon as possible (no later than 6 months after the event)! You can do it in person, by phone, by traditional mail, electronically, or via e-KRUS.
