Aerial smuggling in Zbiczno
On November 1, 2026, shortly after 10:00 AM, the peace of Zbiczno residents was disturbed by an unusual event. A 7-meter balloon carrying a suspicious package landed in a cornfield.
Police operation and evacuation
Brodnica police officers were dispatched to the scene immediately. Due to suspicions of hazardous materials, counter-terrorism experts and a bomb disposal unit were called in. For safety reasons, residents within a 150-meter radius were evacuated, while the fire department stood by to monitor the operation.
Financial blow to smugglers
After neutralizing the object, it was revealed that the package contained 60,000 cigarettes without tax stamps. The state treasury could have lost 75,000 PLN due to this operation. Police are currently investigating the customs smuggling case, and residents have since safely returned to their homes.
