New challenges for novice drivers
Starting September 4, 2026, new traffic regulations in Poland introduce a strict probationary period for holders of category B driving licenses. The duration of this period is 2 years for adults and up to 3 years (until the age of 20) for those who obtained their license at 17.
Key restrictions
- Zero tolerance for substances: There is a strict ban on driving under the influence of alcohol or similar substances (0.0 promille / 0.0 ng/ml).
- Passenger transport rules: Drivers under 18 years of age are not allowed to transport peers without the presence of an adult guardian.
- Professional limitations: Young drivers are prohibited from performing commercial transport of passengers or goods.
What are the consequences of breaking the rules?
The police have the authority to immediately confiscate the driver's license if there is a suspicion of violating these rules. Additionally, exceeding 12 penalty points results in the mandatory completion of a road safety awareness course. More serious offenses or crimes can lead to the withdrawal of driving privileges by the authorities, requiring the driver to repeat the driving course and pass the state exam again.
