Meeting of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Starosts

On March 4th of this year, a crucial meeting of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship County Convention took place in Marusza. Hosted by Grudziądz County, the event gathered starosts from across Kujawy and Pomorze to discuss the region's most pressing challenges. The deliberations were chaired by Zbigniew Jaszczuk, starost of Żnin, and our local government was represented by deputy starost Piotr Burkwicz.

Main Topics of Discussion

During the convention, three fundamental issues affecting the future of Kujawy and Pomorze residents were addressed:

  • Implementation of the Civil Protection and Civil Defense Act: Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivode Michał Sztybel presented the progress in implementing new regulations. An impressive sum of 255 million PLN from government funds has been allocated for this purpose in the voivodeship, highlighting the importance of this topic for regional security.
  • Funding for Road Investments: The principles of co-financing for road construction and modernization from the Government Road Development Fund were discussed. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie region has 158 million PLN available, offering an opportunity for significant improvement in county road infrastructure.
  • Situation of County Hospitals: Agnieszka Bańkowska, director of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Branch of the NFZ in Bydgoszcz, presented the difficult financial situation of county hospitals. It was emphasized that rising operating costs, coupled with insufficient NFZ funding, lead to accumulating liabilities. The Convention's appeal from December 2025 for an urgent increase in service valuations and systemic changes in financing was also reiterated, aiming to ensure financial stability for facilities and health security for residents.

Significance of the Convention

The County Convention, operating for nearly three decades, consistently serves as a key platform for cooperation and exchange of experiences among local governments. It enables the joint development of positions on issues vital to the region, a role reaffirmed by the meeting in Marusza.
