Iwona Sarnowska has passed away

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iwona Sarnowska, the distinguished Chairwoman of the Brodnica City Council from 1998-2002 and a long-time employee of the Brodnica City Hall.

Iwona Sarnowska was a person with a big heart and a tireless social activist. From 1994-2025, she served as the founder and president of the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights. She was also the initiator and long-time manager of the "Reksio" Animal Shelter in Brodnica. In addition, she contributed to the establishment of a shelter for the homeless in 1999.

For her exceptional achievements in social work for people in need of support and in the protection of animal rights, she was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2000. In 2009, she was awarded the Primus Inter Brodnicienses medal for charitable and social activities.

Iwona Sarnowska passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 91.

We will remember her as a person extremely dedicated to people and animals.
