Meeting about the Samurai Code in Brodnica

We invite you to "Meeting with Japan" in Brodnica!

The Municipal and County Public Library in Brodnica cordially invites you to another event from the "Meetings with Japan" series. This time we will delve into the secrets of Bushidō - the samurai code.

"Bushidō Today – The Spirit of the Samurai in the Modern World"

The meeting with Wojciech Kalinowski, entitled "Bushidō Today – The Spirit of the Samurai in the Modern World", will take place on Tuesday, January 27th, at 5:30 PM in the Anna Wazówna Palace – Banquet Hall. Admission to this unique event is free!

Who is the Speaker?

The lecture will be given by Wojciech Kalinowski – an experienced judo coach, karate instructor, enthusiast of Japanese history and culture, and founder of the Japan Promotion Association. In previous editions of "Meetings with Japan", he presented fascinating topics such as "The Legend of Musashi", "Gaijin on the Street", "Happi Kurisumasu – Christmas in Japan", "Holy Mountains – Fuji-san" and "Sumo Known and Unknown".

What will you learn?

During this meeting, Wojciech Kalinowski will introduce us to Bushidō – an unwritten code that has shaped the lives of Japanese samurai for centuries. We will learn about values such as honor, loyalty, courage, honesty, sincerity, compassion, respect, discipline, dedication, and self-improvement, which formed the foundation of this code. We will also learn how Bushidō evolved over the centuries and what virtues are most often associated with it:

  • Chūgi – duty and loyalty
  • Gi – honesty
  • Yū – heroic courage
  • Jin – compassion
  • Rei – respect
  • Makoto – sincerity and truthfulness
  • Meiyo – honor
