St. Andrew's Eve in Gortatowo - Memories of a Magical Night

On November 22, 2025, the community center in Gortatowo came alive with the spirit of St. Andrew's Eve fortune-telling and fun! About 100 guests from Gortatowo and the surrounding areas gathered to celebrate this magical night together.

St. Andrew's Eve, alongside Midsummer customs, is one of the oldest folk customs. As Marcin Bielski wrote in 1557, it is a time when "Pour wax on the water... You will see your adventure." It is a night for making important decisions and for fortune-telling.

Saint Andrew, the brother of Saint Peter, a former disciple of John the Baptist, has been one of the most popular saints for centuries. In the past, December was even called the month of Andrew.
